My hometown is home to one of the best emerging documentary film festivals, so it seems absurd that I didn't create a category for them on my site until thirteen years after going live. This is a dumping ground for non-fiction film, whether it's reportage or opinion. The documentary as visual essay has been a huge growth area for non-fiction film-making, and it's high time I started to pay attention here.
