"EcoNet and PeaceNet are on the same system and have identical
capabilities and have access to each other's electronic
conferences. The main difference is that EcoNet and PeaceNet
users receive different notices upon logging in."

WHAT IS ECONET ?

EcoNet is a computer-based communication system helping the
environmental movement throughout the world to communicate and
cooperate more effectively and efficiently. A large minicomputer,
based in northern California, connected to Telenet (a common
carrier), enables EcoNet users to communicate globally, usually
through a local phone call.

DOES ECONET REQUIRE A SPECIAL COMPUTER?

No. EcoNet is compatible with nearly any personal computer or
computer terminal outfitted with a 300 or 1200 baud modem (also 2400
if Telenet has 2400 baud access).

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

EcoNet's rates are among the lowest anywhere. With a $15 sign-up
fee, you get a user manual and other support materials and an extra
free hour of off-peak connect time for the first month. (Peak time
is 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, your time; all other
time is off-peak.) After the one-time sign-up fee, you pay a
monthly subscription of $10 each month. For the subscription fee
you receive one free hour of off-peak time each month. Additional
connect time is charged at the rate of $5/hour for off-peak and $10
for peak time. There is also a small charge for users requiring a
large amount of storage space. EcoNet pays the Telenet bill.

INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS

Through EcoNet's parallel computer nodes in England, Canada,
Australia, Sweden, Nicaragua, and Brazil, you can not only exchange
electronic mail but also participate in electronic conferences with
people all around the world. Electronic mail exchange with the
Soviet Union is conducted through our connection with the San
Francisco/Moscow Teleport.

Through Telenet, EcoNet is accessible from more than 70 countries.

FULL TELECOMMUNICATIONS CAPABILITIES - ELECTRONIC MAIL & CONFERENCING

***Electronic Mail -- in addition easy to use mail commands, EcoNet
has gateways to more than 20 other networks including ATT, MCI,
Bitnet, TCN, and UUCP. You can also send electronic mail to a fax
machine or as a Telex message.

***Electronic Conferences -- more than 140 public conferences permit
you to read and/or post information on the full range of
environmental issues, including acid rain, global warming, energy
policy, rainforest preservation, and toxics in the environment.
Private conferences can be created for communications among a
specified group of users.

ONLINE ENVIRONMENTAL COMMUNITY

Perhaps most important, by becoming part of EcoNet you are
participating with individuals and organizations working on
environmental issues and education at the grassroots and planetary
level. Along with hundreds of grassroots organizations, virtually
all of the major national U.S. organizations are represented on
EcoNet.
