Lines: 114 In article <1991Jan31.021718.5177@dartvax.dartmouth.edu>, harelb@cabot.dartmouth.edu (Harel Barzilai) writes: > "A quarter-ton of concentrated hatred," declared CNN's Richard Blystone > as a lone SCUD hit Tel Aviv Tuesday. Due to wartime restrictions, the > Pentagon offered no comment on the "hatred" content of thousands of tons > of Allied ordnance dropped on Iraq. There is no hatred in allied bombs. Iraq is the cause of this war and Iraq can end this war and the bloodshed within minutes. ALL THAT HUSSEIN NEEDS TO DO IS RETREAT FROM KUWAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF HUSSEIN RETREATS FROM KUWAIT THE BOMBING AND KILLING WILL STOP!!!!!! IF HUSSEIN GIVES UP HIS VIOLENT BLITZKRIEG AGAINST THE KUWAITI PEOPLE NO MORE IRAQIS HAVE TO DIE. The statements by Harel are pure propoganda. THE FACTS ARE THAT IRAQ IS IN CONTROL OF ITS LIFE AND DEATH. AS LONG AS THEY ATTEMPT TO RETAIN CONTROL OF KUWAIT THEY WILL DIE AND AS LONG AS THEY CONTINUE TO SPEND THEIR ENTIRE NATIONAL EARNINGS ON WEAPONS THEY WILL CONTINUE TO DIE AND BE IN POVERTY. Everything is in the hands of the Iraqi's. They can lead peaceful, prosperous and happy lives practicing whatever religion they want or they can continue to spend all their money on weapons and inciting hatred with their neighbors and the world and invading other countries. The choice is Iraq's. While they make the choices they have I HAVE NO SYMPATHY for their position. They CHOOSE THIS PATH. IT IS NOT THE PATH THE US PREFERS, BUT IT IS THE PATH WE WILL TAKE IF SADDAM FORCES US TO. HE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO KEEP KUWAIT AND THE IRAQIS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO REMAIN IN KUWAIT. GET OUT NOW HUSSEIN. IT'S STILL NOT TOO LATE!!! > We saw the extraordinary technical prowess of the media and the courage > of behind-the-lines reporters emerge as their own news stories. We saw > American viewers turn into voyeurs as each obsolete missile was lobbed > into Saudi Arabia or Israel -- while night after night the bombing of > Baghdad, some of the most lethal bombing in history, slipped into the > background. The allied bombing is optional for Saddam. The bombing of innocent Israeli's is also optional for Saddam. He chooses both. It's his choice to stay in Kuwait and it is his choice to bomb innocent Israelis. I've had it with this garbage. Get it straight. > war reporting; unreported stories of the war and its opposition; we'll > monitor the diversity -- or lack -- of opinion included on public > affairs shows. But first, a list of dates to remember: Opinion is one thing. Blatant self-serving propoganda is another. If you have some reason to believe that Saddam SHOULD keep Kuwait OR if you believe that the US would NOT stop bombing Saddam if he moved out, then we can have a real political discussion. Blaming America for the deaths is stupid and blatantly propoganda. Saddam is causing all the death in the region unless you believe: 1) Saddam should keep Kuwait or 2) The US would not stop bombing him should he leave. Constant barrage of stories of how Germans were dying to Allied bombers in WWII is stupid. Talking of how many Iraqis are dying is stupid. Talk to me about whether Saddam should be in Kuwait and talk to me about if the US will keep its word should he withdraw. > How did this missile become a media darling? Mid-week's single- minded > media focus on the Patriot may have taken place in part because control > on reporters' conduct simply left no other stories within reach. The Maybe it was the darling because it prevented the loss of American lives and Israeli lives? > It isn't > hard to salivate over a anti-missile missile that you think may have > just saved your life. Exactly. > Defense contractors are smiling because the Patriot, with the press as a > guidance system, has scored another direct hit -- a few days' reported > success by a single missile system seems to have atoned for decades of > corruption and mismanagement in defense contracting. Members of > Congress, whose best information sources are the same censored news > stories we've all seen, have used the Patriot as a launching pad to > revive the SDI and other staggeringly expensive high-tech systems. As if this guy cares about how much money America spends or how america does in the world or how many american lives are saved. His whole article is from a Iraqi point of view, so, concern of his for our lives or money has got to be questioned on the face of it. > In Panama, the press attended with their "security reviewers" and gave > us such gritty journalism as the TV piece on the most requested song > that the grunts blasted at Noriega in Panama's Vatican compound: Bon > Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive." For the next several months, no one > bothered to go back in afterwards and get the real story. Malpractice > during the "surgical" strikes actually left hundreds of civilians dead. The US press lost interest in the story. This gentleman believes the US is covering up bad news. In fact, stories which never made it into the larger press in America were the fact that a poll done by Costa Rica showed 89% approval ratings in Panama for American action and for continued prescence of American troops in Panama after the treaty ends in 2000. The fact is that the real story is the hatred of the Panamanian people for Noriega and their gratefulness for Americas action. This mans reports are slanted away from the truth. I ask why?
