(2) Scan/type in articles (in some cases where needed, get permiss) ****************************************************************** Project: Need to combine current files -rw-r--r-- 1 harelb 41931 May 6 03:17 groups.part-one -rw-r--r-- 1 harelb 33609 May 6 02:46 groups.part-two With a listing of groups sent by someone else: -rw-r--r-- 1 harelb 68685 May 2 02:52 groups.foxvog There are duplications ; things need to be put into a nice clean and organized format; and split up into 5 or so categories of manageable size (and categories which makes sense) ****************************************************************** Category III: (1) Contact person for publication (see above list) or contact person group (NLNS / PeaceNet / FAIR / Institute for Soc/Cult. Chng especially come to mine (send 1-line message GET PROJECT PACH-2 ACTIV-L to the address LISTSERV@UMCVMB.BITNET and see appx's) but progressive/peace groups in general If you have real "contacts" or have been a member of an organization for a while, or you're just a "people person" <-: etc. ****************************************************************** Category I: Contribute entries to the Resource files: PUBLCATN RESOURCE Alternative publications VIDEOS RESOURCE Alternative videos GROUPS-1 RESOURCE Progressive activist groups (1/2) GROUPS-2 RESOURCE Progressive activist groups (2/2) [...etc...] ****************************************************************** Category II: Write up resources files Use the GET command on the files: HEALTH INSURANCE or ECONOMIC STATS for full-scale examples; or some of the Nicaragua files [CONTRA TERROR ; FSLN MISKITOS ; FSLN NICAJEWS; FSLN ACHIEVE] for full-scale but mainly direct quotations ; or file like FMLN BACKGRND or SPEAKOUT BROCHURE for files created with by just cut-and-pasting pieces of articles. ================================= To get a file named ABC XYZ from the archiver (all file names are two words separated by a space), one sends the 1-line message GET ABC XYZ ACTIV-L to: LISTSERV@UMCVMB.BITNET ================================= ****************************************************************** Category II-III: Help with "programming" (in the sense of TV/radio stations) for the new newsgroup. Category I: do some of the regular/cyclic posting (untill an automated posting mechanism is created) ****************************************************************** Category III: Technical advisor: (a) For us -- e.g. automating posting of regularly schedules files; connections with PeaceNet and various mailing lists; etc. * Also need to write up (or find well-written) into's for non- technically proficient activists (esp.ly campus activists w/lots of access) ; e.g. I've written (an primitive) "intro to unix" ; there already are intros to emacs. (b) For PSNs, PSN-networks, campus peace groups, etc -- see the PACH project file (use GET on the file PROJECT PACH-2 as mentioned above) This is a very important and necessary job as regarding PACH. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - * Help Rich with things on UMCVMB/Archiving/(What else Rich?) * Help me if you're an emacs guru (or just bumbling around with macros like me) for automating (w/macros etc) PeaceNet --> UseNet / email lists etc. ################################################################## N o t e o n P r o g r a m m i n g : ################################################################## Example of what I mean by "programming" : [Included below are some of the items to be posted periodically.] Just of the top of my head, a possible description of (part of the overall) programming would be: Post PEACENET BROCHURE once per even month, on the 15th Post ECONET BROCHURE once per odd month, on the 15th Post (some intro all about the group) once a month, on the 1st Post ACTIV-L INDEX listing (a portion of which is below) 15th of each month Post AMLDBASE DOC every odd month.... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - From the BOOKS, VIDEOS, SPEAKERS, PUBLICATIONS, TAPES, CATALOGS, etc, I'd like (automated, eventually) regular postings from; like a featured book, video, publication, etc; doing this 3 times a week, say, would mean not having to start over for several months. If we feature Left Business Observer, the post will say at the bottom what command to send for the full listing; etc. I've made some efforts to cross-reference the archived files. For good examples, see the "Nicaragua library" (was my pet project) files, especially FAIRNESS USA-NICA and NICA-84 ELECTION, or CHOMSKY VICTORS2 ################################################################## * =============== * Networking info * =============== ACTIV-L ARCHIVE List of files in this archive (this file) AMLDBASE DOC Tutorial on Listserv's database language * NEWSGRP PROPOSAL Proposal for misc.activism.general PROJECT PACH-2 The Progressive Alliance Clearing House project * PEACENET BROCHURE All about PeaceNet, EcoNet, etc. CAMPUS PROGPUBS Email list of Progressive Stud. Names suggestions? Other comments? ################################################################## =============================== N o t e o n K E Y w o r d s =============================== A system of these is needed to help people keep track of what's what. Some ideas: Origin: ======= "PN" = Forwarded from PeaceNet ; similarly "EN" for EcoNet "AML-RSRC" = archived resoruce file "AML-ARCHV" = "archived article" avail. from Nature ====== "ADMIN"istrative, announcements about m.a.g., etc. "ALERT" need urgent action; incl.'s legislative "EVENTS" = upcoming ; incl "TALK" "(some other keyword here)" = reporting on past events "(some "venting spleen" type KEY)" = for philos/strategy etc wait on this till we have a .discussion group; or for "VIDEO:" / "BOOK:" / or general "RESOURCE:" when no spec. category. TOPIC ====== "CENT-AM" or "[CA]" "MID-E" or "[ME]" "[ECO]" "[MEDIA]" "[G/L]" (Gay / Lesbian) "[FEM]" "[DMST]" = domestic; economic policy/programs/taxation "[HUM]"an rights / death penalty / etc ... we should have enough to cover a fair % of the traffic so most is described... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ETC; so that keywords would simultaneously describe (possibly) more than aspect of the classification of the article; i.e., these listed above are by no means mutually exclusive. This means less of the normal "subject" will fit into the Subject: line but I think this is ok because (main reason is still that I think KEYWORDS are quite important (in fact some people's support for the gropu depended on them being able to sort out that subste they are interested in)) people see the first screen anyway, where the Title could be found; an "=" from "rn" summarizing only the "Subject:" lines would give people an idea of which material is out these. This, wtih "kill files" is approximate fairly well the structure of being able to subscribe to some sub-newsgroups and not be subscribed to others, until we split up into a family, which will take a while (not to mention more wo/man power!)
