Rob Lorei has the details from Florida. Lorei: ``John Hull was originally arrested in his home in Costa Rica on murder charges more than a year ago. He was released on bond and then secretly left Costa Rica last year. For awhile he returned to the U.S., however he's been living most recently in Nicaragua. ``But when the Costa Rican authorities asked that he be extradited to face murder charges in connection with the bombing, he fled Central America and now he's in Tampa. He says that he was in Nicaragua only to gather evidence that would clear him.'' Hull: ``I went to interview one of the people that was at the scene that was a commander of Eden Pastora and to get his story of what happened which completely revokes Avirgan and Honey Christic's theory.'' Lorei: ``The Avirgan-Honey-Christic theory is that Hull and others tried to assassinate dissident contra leader Eden Pastora at the La Penca bombing because Pastora disagreed with the way the CIA was running to covert war. Martha Honey and Tony Avirgan are journalists who work in Costa Rica. Avirgan was one of more than a dozen journalists who were wounded in the bombing. Four others were killed. ``Avirgan is now a plaintiff in the Christic Institute lawsuit which seeks to expose the secret operation that allegedly used murder, illegal arms shipment, and drugs smuggling to aid the contra cause. Hull says that the Christic allegations are nothing but wild speculation and that Costa Rica should drop the charges.'' Hull: ``I have offered to go back if Costa Rica will give me a writ of habeas corpus like you do here where I'll remain free to move and free to fight my case. I'd be very happy to go back to Costa Rica and fight it in the courts. But under the way it is now, it's a political thing and there's no way that I can get a fair trial and there's no way I'm going to go down there and sit in jail for two years before it goes to court to try to prove my innocence which I'm sure I can.'' Avirgan: ``This is John Hull's line for a very long time. If he really believes that, why doesn't he come back here to Costa Rica, stand trial. The court system here is known for its impartiality and fairness and he would have a perfectly fair trial where all evidence from both sides would come out in the open.'' Lorei: ``Journalist and Christic Institute plaintiff Tony Avigan.'' Avirgan: ``He says that he would come back if he was granted habeas corpus and guaranteed not to be put in jail. That's absolute nonsense because he jumped bail. He was out on bail.'' Lorei: ``John Hull says that he'll travel now from Florida to Washington D.C. where he promises to reveal the evidence he says will clear him. The Christic Institute lawsuit which had been dismissed by a Miami federal judge is now being appealed and oral arguments are scheduled to be heard next month by the Atlanta Federal Appeals Court.
