ELECTRONIC ACTIVISM: Part I

Purpose

This article is in response to the call for articles ("long-standing projects ... accomplishments, plans, problems, and reasons why new people ought to become involved," Journal of the 5th Year, Feb. '92 issue). It is also a response to Edward Herman's article {Democratic Media} in {Z Papers}, since:

  1. Herman's otherwise comprehensive article lacks substantial coverage of electronic activism and electronic media, and
  2. We would like to show (in the second of the article's two parts) how electronic activism can address some of the key problems and issues Herman raised as essential to "democratizing the media", and how it can help overcome, more generally, obstacles to effective activism.
