From 75300.3112@CompuServe.COM Sat Apr 4 15:44:41 1992 Date: 04 Apr 92 11:38:40 EST From: Agran for President <75300.3112@CompuServe.COM> To: Subject: Agran on animal rights? We already have a position paper on animal rights: LARRY AGRAN ON ANIMAL RIGHTS Larry Agran supports legislation and regulations which result in humane treatment of animals. He believes in a fundamental respect for all life forms sharing this planet with us. Animals in Scientific Research Larry Agran supports legislation restricting the use of animals in laboratory research to only those circumstances where other methods are not available. When animals must be used, they should be treated with the utmost sensitivity and without pain. Mr. Agran supports funding for a national computer database for medical research. This database would include information about experimental research which could avoid the use of animals in laboratory experiments. Animals as Livestock Larry Agran believes that animals raised for food should be treated as humanely as possible. Mr. Agran applauds those who have reduced their consumption of animal protein, or who have chosen vegetarianism as a lifestyle, and believes that this decision is a matter of personal conscience. Endangered Species Larry Agran supports legislation which hastens the identification and preservation of endangered species. As part of his "New American Security" program, Mr. Agran would transfer $20 billion per year from the military budget for proactive environmental programs, including the protection of endangered species. Mr. Agran supports trade sanctions against nations which violate international accords protecting endangered or threatened species, such as whales and dolphins. ################################################################## Note: For more info on Agran's "New American Security" program, see: 2/29/92 22*Larry Agran: Fact Sheet 1 harelb@math.cornell.edu 23*Larry Agran: Announcement Speech harelb@math.cornell.edu in this conference -- the first is a very concise summary; the later gives more details; see also: 3/05/92 26*Agran on Mideast/Foreign Policy 4 harelb@math.cornell.edu 28*Agran position paper on Environment harelb@math.cornell.edu 3/08/92 33*Agran: Economic Conversion Program 9 harelb@math.cornell.edu 34*Agran: Overall Economic Program 1 harelb@math.cornell.edu ################################################################## ("This conference" = PeaceNet's "elections.usa")
