Show and Tell:

In this shot, we see the demon close up. This shot occurs within the first ten minutes of the movie, suggesting that the producers of Curse of the Demon were feeling out the exploitation philosophy of Samuel Z. Arkoff, who famously maintained that a movie needs a good first reel, a good last reel, and what falls in between doesn't matter.

Consequently, we don't get the demon again until the last reel. Here, the demon is less convincing than the shots earlier in the movie.

Tucked into these shots is a hint of how director Jacques Tourneur would have preferred to handle things:

In this shot, we see a train with a plume of smoke above it. The smoke has been a characteristic of the demon previously in the film, complete with a signature sound-effect (which is present on the soundtrack during this shot). In a hypothetical version of the movie in which shots of the demon itself are omitted, this shot would be ambiguous, as would Karswell's ultimate fate.
