The Alien Dead, 1980. Buster Crabbe.
Ungainly and inept even by the unusually low standards with which one measures Fred Olen Ray's movies. Alien thingies are rampaging through Smalltown, USA, and our hero, a reporter for the local newspaper doesn't think it's the alligators--because, as everyone keeps telling him, there hasn't been a gator seen in the swamp for years. Former Buck Rogers Crabbe is as amatuer as the rest of the cast as he tries to wrap an accent around mostly improvised dialogue. Director Ray's auteurial hallmark--which is to say his neurotic refusal to move the camera even one millimeter even though the cameraman is occasional afflicted with a palsey--is very much in evidence here. This starts to drag even before the opening credits.
